Our Abousson range of designs are based on the traditional Aubusson style rugs that originate from Louis XIII's France, in a town of the same name 200 miles from Paris. Created using a similar flat weave to our chainstitch rugs, though not exactly the same (hence the slight change in spelling), the original Aubusson style was brought to France from the crusaders after tehir time in Turkey and Asia, and was first made in 1608 solely for the French Royal Family. They have also be known as needle point rugs, though slightly different techniques have been used throughout the ages. Aubusson rugs, and variations of the style, have been made in India and other parts of Asia for over 200 years.

The Abousson Black offers a toned down set of colours, contrasting with the black inner border, creating a traditional piece that can be seen in the most stylish of contemporary settings. This is one of the hardest to create designs we have in our collection, and always proves very popular. The intricacy of the design, the subtlety of the the colours, and the contrast with the black make this design one of our favourites.
